A Reflection on 2019: Trusting God to Lead

Reflecting on 2019

A Reflection on 2019

2019 was not an easy year for us.

We started off the year with more questions than answers about our future in ministry and struggled through the pain of betrayal by some church leaders when we felt God was calling us to walk away from their ministry.

We maneuvered through the emotions of my mother’s breast cancer diagnosis, surgeries, and treatment, and tried to be fair and honest with the family drama that interweaved itself through it all.

We lost too many loved ones in 2019. Some we lost tragically. Others we lost after long battles with illness.

Through it all, we felt God’s presence with us. Doors opened for new friendships, old relationships were strengthened, and hints of God’s plan for us began to be revealed. Despite our roller coaster ride of emotions, we made progress toward God’s goal for our lives.

Where is your focus?

When looking back at our past year, we all have the tendency to only focus on what went wrong. We have a long enough list for 2019 too.

Instead, we choose to focus on what God did in those difficult moments. The clarity we gained as we navigated them. The bonds and relationships God changed. The lessons learned and the paths made clear.

There is no promise that our 2020 will be an easy year, but God does promise He will be there with us. Already, He is outlining for us a plan for our future and training us through our past experiences to minister to the people He brings into our lives.

Moving into 2020

Our prayer is to always be obedient to Him, even if we don’t always understand. As we move into a new year, let’s all remember to walk each day trying to seek God’s will.

What are your reflections on the last year? What lessons has God taught you to take into this new year?
